Recreational (Rec) Soccer is designed for those interested in basic soccer skills training, and playing games.  Rec Soccer generally involves less commitment (e.g. practices) than Travel or Wave Premier Soccer.

 
Fall games will begin on September 9 for U7 and older for the 2017-18 season. 
U5-6 will be held on Saturdays beginning September 9 for the 2017-18 season. 
All Rosters and Game schedules are posted under Team Central (also can be accessed through My Account when you are logged in). 

Ø      Ages 5-8 are designated as Instructional divisions, meaning:

      - No scores are kept

      - Requests to play with another friend or coach may be honored

      - Extra instruction is provided (e.g. weekly practice sessions)

Ø      While the majority of players in the U8 and older Co-ed divisions are Boys, Girls are welcome to participate in any Co-ed division

Ø      Players may play up one age group (e.g. a U7 Girl may play in U8 Girls league).  You must register in the younger age group, then send an e-mail to [email protected] requesting to be transferred to the older division.

Ø      All players registering prior to June 30 are guaranteed placement.  Late registrations (after June 30) are NOT guaranteed placement.

Ø      Rec Soccer includes both a Fall (mid-Aug through Oct) and Spring (April through May) season.  Players will play with the same team in Fall and Spring.  Winter Indoor soccer is not included.

Ø      MSC's primary objective in forming teams is to form fair and balanced teams.  Note that special requests may be honored for ages U8 and below (limit one request).  Special requests for U9 and above are not accepted.

Ø      Rec Soccer coaches are selected from volunteer candidates, based upon experience and qualifications.

PRACTICES

Ø      Team Practices - typically held 3-4 times prior to season.  Instructional divisions typically have weekly practice sessions.

Ø      Technical Training (“footskills“) - led by highly experienced coaches, these sessions will be available on selected Friday nights in Fall and Spring

GAMES

Ø     Rec Soccer games are held on Saturdays mornings/early afternoon, as well as weeknights (Mon-Thu).  There are typically no games on Friday nights, Saturday after 4:00 pm, and Sunday.

Ø      Games are played at various fields in Mentor.  The current fields are used (subject to change):
Ø      The intent is for all Rec players to get nearly equal playing time.  MSC Policy is that each player should play a minimum of 50% of the playing time.

TOURNAMENTS

Ø      Rec teams generally do not enter tournaments.  Any tournament participation would be at the discretion of the coach and parents, and only those families participating would be expected to pay.

WINTER INDOOR SOCCER

Ø      Winter Indoor Soccer is not included for Rec players.  Winter Indoor Soccer costs are extra - only those participating are expected to pay

Ø      Rec coaches are not expected to form a team for indoor play.  However, if they do, they are expected to first offer the opportunity for their Rec players to play on the Indoor team, prior to recruiting any other players.  If you are interested in having your child play indoor soccer, please contact your coach well prior to Winter session to determine plans.

VOLUNTEERS

Mentor Soccer Club is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization, and we always need members to assist with required tasks.  If we do not obtain enough volunteers, the club will simply be forced to hire people and increase fees, which could be substantial.

Please consider helping out the club:

Ø      There are numerous volunteer opportunities throughout the year, both on-field and off-field.

Ø      For most tasks, you don’t need to be a soccer expert at all.

Ø      In addition to adults, we can use older teenagers as volunteers for some tasks
