Mentor Soccer Club Home of the Wave

Recreational Soccer

Recreational (Rec) Soccer is designed for those interested in basic soccer skills training and playing games. Rec Soccer generally involves less commitment (e.g., practices) than Travel or Wave Premier Soccer.

  • Fall games and practices will begin in August.
  • Mentor Soccer Club Academy will be held on Saturdays or Sundays beginning in August.
  • All Rosters and Game schedules are posted under Team Central (also can be accessed through My Account when you are logged in).

Ages 4-7 are designated as MSC Academy, meaning:

      - No scores are kept.

      - Requests to play with another friend or coach may be honored but not guaranteed.

      - Coaches are adults, and High Schools soccer players.

While most players in the U8 and older Co-ed divisions are Boys, Girls are welcome to participate in any Co-ed division. We will try to split Boys and Girls up equally to provide a comfortable learning environment.

Players may play up two birth years (e.g., a U10 may play up to U12).  You must register in your birth year, then send an e-mail to [email protected] requesting to be transferred to the older division.

Payment for Rec Soccer includes both the Fall and Spring season. Players will play with the same team in Fall and Spring. Winter Indoor soccer is not included.

MSC's primary objective in forming teams is to form fair and balanced teams. Note that special requests may be honored for younger birth years U8 and below (limit one request). Special requests for U9 and above are not accepted. Also note, since there are no tryouts for Rec, children are placed blindly without knowing their skill set.

Rec Soccer coaches are selected from parents volunteers, and family members from MSC's membership who sign up as Volunteers. However, all Volunteer coaches must have a Background Check, Concussion, and Lindsay’s Law Certificate.

Team Practices - should be held two weeks prior to the start of the season. However, coaches can hold practices during the season as well.

Rec Soccer games, including make-up games, are held on weeknights and Saturdays.

Games are played at various fields in Mentor. The current fields used are subject to change.

The intent is for all Rec players to get nearly equal playing time.

MSC policy is that each player should play a minimum of 50% of the playing time. However, some players may elect not to play at their discretion when asked to play by the coach.

Rec teams generally do not enter tournaments.  Any tournament participation would be at the discretion of the coach and parents, and only those families participating would be expected to pay.

Winter Indoor Soccer is not offered for Rec players at this time. However, we are currently working on creating a Winter Rec League.

Mentor Soccer Club is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization, and we always need members to assist with required tasks. If we do not obtain enough volunteers, the club will be forced to hire people and increase fees substantially.

Please consider helping out the club:

There are numerous volunteer opportunities throughout the year, both on-field and off-field.

For most tasks, you don’t need to be a soccer expert at all.

In addition to adults, we can use older teenagers as volunteers for some tasks.

Please view available Volunteer Opportunities.

Thank you for your support of Mentor Soccer Club in this critical area!
