Rec League Description/Registration

2021/2022 MSC REC

Recreational (Rec) Soccer is designed for those interested in basic soccer skills training and playing games. Rec Soccer generally involves less commitment (e.g., practices) than Travel or Wave Premier Soccer.

  • Fall games and practices will begin in August.
  • Spring Games and practices will begin in April.
  • All Rosters and Game schedules are posted under Team Central (also accessed through My Account when logged in to

While most U8 and older Co-ed divisions are Boys, girls can participate in any Co-ed division. We will try to split Boys and Girls up equally to provide a comfortable learning environment.
Players may play up two birth years (e.g., a U10 may play up to U12). You must register in your birth year, then send an e-mail to [email protected] requesting a transfer to the older division.

Payment for Rec Soccer includes both the Fall and Spring season, and players will play with the same team in Fall and Spring. Indoor soccer is not included.

MSC's primary objective in forming teams is to create fair and balanced teams. Also note, since there are no tryouts for Rec, children are placed blindly without knowing their skill set.

Note: Mentor Soccer Club reserves the right to combine divisions, birth years, and gender when necessary based on the number of participants signed up.

Rec Soccer coaches are selected from parents, volunteers, and family members from MSC's membership who sign up as Volunteers. However, all Volunteer coaches must have a Background Check, Concussion, and Lindsay’s Law Certificate. All rec teams MUST have a parent coach volunteer, we don't provide coaches due to the price. Rec coaches are not required to have any soccer knowledge.

Team Practices - should be held two weeks before the start of the season. However, coaches can have practices during the season as well.
Rec Soccer games, including make-up games, are held on weeknights and weekends.
Games are played at various fields in Mentor and Lake County. The current fields used are subject to change.

MSC policy is that each player should play a minimum of 50% of the playing time. However, some players may elect not to play at their discretion when asked to play by the coach.

Rec teams generally do not enter tournaments. Any tournament participation would be at the discretion of the coach and parents, and only those families participating would be expected to pay.

Winter Indoor Soccer is offered for Rec players from November to December. Mentor Indoor Rec League is played at Force Sports in Eastlake. NOTE: This will change once the City of Mentor takes over at Mentor Heisley Racquet and Fitness Club. Our soccer program's location will change location.

Mentor Soccer Club is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization, and we always need members to assist with required tasks. If we do not obtain enough volunteers, the club will be forced to hire people and increase fees substantially.

Rec Soccer FAQs

Mentor Soccer Club – Rec Soccer Program

What is Rec Soccer?
Our rec soccer program is for ages 4 to 13 who are interested in playing soccer.  We accept all skill levels and experience is not necessary.

When does the season start and end?  Registration for rec soccer includes both Fall and Spring sessions. Fall session will begins in August and runs through the end of October.  Spring session starts in April and runs until mid June.  There is no additional cost for spring session and your child will be on the same team as the fall.

When are games and practices? All games will be played during the weeknights and weekends. Practices are decided by the volunteer coach based on their availability.

How do I register?  If you do not have an account with MSC, then you’ll need to open one on our website. Once you have and account and add your child as a participant, you will be able to see the available programs based on his or her birthdate. Choose the program you are interested in and follow the program through to payment. You will receive a confirmation email when registration is complete.

What if I want to request a specific coach or teammate?  During registration there is a section for “special requests” to make your request.  We will do our best to honor requests and to make sure teams are balanced. We cannot guarantee that all requests will be granted.

When will I hear about team placement? Team announcements will be received by email. Team schedules will be posted on our website.

How can I volunteer to be a coach or an assistant coach? During registration there is a page for volunteering. Choose which volunteer positions you are interested in and you will be contacted. Volunteer coaches are vital to making our program a success. Please consider volunteering or finding out more about volunteer opportunities within our club.

Does my child get a uniform? All players will receive a jersey, shorts, and socks.  You will need to supply shin guards, water bottle, and soccer ball. Soccer cleats are required.

What is your refund policy?  Our refund policy can be found on our website. Click on the tab “About MSC” and then “Program Fees”.

My child cannot play soccer in the Fall. Can he/she play in the spring? Yes, we open registration again for spring season after the Fall season is completed.

Any additional questions about our rec soccer program or registration can be sent to [email protected].
