FAQ

MSC WAVE SOCCER PROGRAM - FAQ

Q.  WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE WAVE SOCCER PROGRAM?
A.  The goals of MSC Wave Soccer are to:
- Provide the best opportunity for children to develop into better soccer players
- Provide multiple levels to accommodate a wide variety/number of skill levels
- Improve training by utilizing our best trainers, and increasing the frequency of training opportunities
- Provide services at same cost for all participants

Q.  HOW MUCH DOES MSC WAVE SOCCER COST?
The cost for 2019-20 season will be $910 (payment plan available), which includes all team Fall and Spring outdoor practices, both session of Winter Indoor practices/league play, optional Friday Night Footskills Soccer and Goalkeeper training sessions, and games for the Fall and Spring seasons.  The fee also includes the MSC Wave uniform package (2 full uniforms, backpack and warm up suit).  The increase in cost over last year is due to including the uniform package in the price.  Previous years, the uniform was purchased separately.

Not included in annual fee:  tournaments.

If have already registered under a Rec program for the coming year and would like to try out for MSC Wave Soccer, send an e-mail to [email protected] and we will transfer your child to the MSC Wave tryout list.

Q.  WHAT IF I CANNOT MAKE PART OF TRYOUTS?
A.  Players should still attend whatever time they can.  If a player cannot make both days of tryouts due to extenuating circumstances, contact us at [email protected] PRIOR to May 22nd.
Obviously, to the extent that players miss part or all of the tryout, they may not receive the benefit of a full and fair evaluation.

Q.  WHAT IS THE EVALUATION FORMAT?
A.  Players will be evaluated as they play games of soccer with varying numbers of players, anywhere from 2v2 to 11v11.  Evaluations are performed by members of the MSC Wave professional coaching staff.  Players are evaluated on a number of factors such as dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, field awareness, speed of play, strength, and work rate. Input from previous year's coaches may be used, including ability and commitment level.  Ultimately, a ranking of players is developed for each age group (these evaluations/rankings will not be made public).

Q.  HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED?
A.  Players are offered spots on an MSC Wave team based upon their tryout performance, previous experience, and team needs.  If there is more than one team in an age group, the top players are offered a spot on the top team, and remaining players may be offered a spot on a second team.  In some cases, teams may be formed with different age players, but players will never be more than one year apart in age.  Players who make the top team may choose to play down with the second team if they desire.

Targeted roster sizes:

  • U9 and U10 (7v7) - 14 players
  • U11 and U12 (9v9) - 16 players
  • U13, U14 and U15(11v11) - 18 players

Q.  WHEN/HOW ARE NOTIFICATIONS MADE?
A.  Notifications are expected to be made approximately 5-7 days after the end of the last tryout.  If your child makes an MSC Wave team, the initial notification will be via e-mail.  You will be given the opportunity to accept or decline your position.  An initial payment is also required to reserve your spot.  Response/payment deadline is Sunday, June 30th.  (If teams for a specific age group are not announced by Sunday, June 30th, the response/payment deadline will be adjusted accordingly.)

Q.  WHAT AGE TEAMS ARE AVAILABLE?
We expect there will be MSC Wave teams for birth years 2005 through 2011 for both Boys and Girls.  Players may try out on an older age team (max one year older), but will be placed at the discretion of the Vice President of Wave.  Typically, players will be placed on an older age team only if there is room and if they are rated as a top-level player in the older age division, or at the discretion of the Vice President of Wave.

Q.  WHO ARE THE COACHES?
A.  This will be announced when tryout announcements are made, if not earlier.  The head coach will typically be a non-parent coach, while assistants may be parent volunteers.  All MSC Wave head coaches have significant soccer playing and/or coaching experience, and must complete at least 12 hours of training with the State Soccer Association.  Assistant coaches must also complete training with the State Soccer Association.

Q.  WHAT IF MY CHILD DOES NOT MAKE A TEAM, OR WE CHANGE OUR MIND?

A.  If a child does not make a team or you change your mind, if you notify us in the required time frames, we will provide a full refund, or transfer your child's registration to Rec Soccer and provide an appropriate registration refund.

Q.  WHAT IF I NEED MORE INFORMATION?
A.  Go to www.mentorsoccerclub.com, and click on MSC Wave Soccer.  Or e-mail us at [email protected]  If you need to talk in person, please leave a phone number.
