Mentor (Mason) vs WIllowick (2) - Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - Tuesday, September 25, 2007
L: 4-2 Well, another tough game against a tough and big team. They had a couple (2) of really good goals, centering the ball, and finishing the ball in the goal. However, just before the half, we scored (Nikki Porter) making the score 2-1 and a chance to get back in the game. Then they had a goal making it 3-1. Then we came back and scored (Nikki Porter again) and back within 1 goal. There final goal came late in the half when Krissy tried to clear the ball and it rebounded back into goal. Injured during the game (Andrea -hand, and Sam-knee). Hope they are well to play for tomorrow. Good game, tough loss, but still fun to watch.
Mentor (Mason) v Mentor (Stopek) - Thursday, September 20, 2007 - Thursday, September 20, 2007
W: 1-0 This was a good game, and we didnt want the other Mentor team to have total bragging rights for the Fall Season.
Both the Mentor teams both have 2 losses, and the Willowick team is currently undefeated. We lost our first game to Mentor, and lost our first game to Willowick, now revenge is ours. Our defense looked a little better this week, with the addition of Sam's speed in the backfield. Kirsten did a great job keeping them scoreless the entire game. They should have scored on several fast breaks, but we managed to keep them scoreless.
Our offense was good, and we kept moving the ball downfield and most the game in there zone. Nicki had the only goal for the game, and as I have always said. We Win as a team, and lose as a team.
Player of the Game I would have to give this game to Sam Huth. Excellent speed and good defensive skills.
Next VictimLets contain Willowick like we did the second half last Saturday, and we can win.
Good Game and I am proud of you all.
Mentor (Mason) vs Willowick "A" team - Sunday, September 16, 2007 - Sunday, September 16, 2007
2-3 (L) Well this was a tough loss. We never lost site of the game, and it was a well played game overall.
Defense, defense, defense wins games, and our defense didn't bring their "A" game. They were a fast team, and to beat a fast team, is to hold your ground and wait for the offensive player to bring the ball to you. However,we win and lose as a team, and I apologize for getting so excited when playing a quality team as we did on Saturday.
They came out and scored 2 quick goals, and that's when we settled down, and kept them out of our goal, except for that their last stray goal that ended up being the winning goal. We had them worried, when we scored our first goal by Andrea Klies, and then quickly there after a nice left footed goal to tie the game by Megan Kupniewski.
Michelle Hren, Marcy Myers and Jackie Difrangia were outstanding in the midfield. Sam Huth did a great job against a very good team, making save after save, She doesn't like to play goalie, but she does an outstanding job and I have the utmost confidence in her ability to play goalie.
My game plan next game against this team, will be to move Krissy into Goalie, and place Sam Huth in the Mid Defensive position, since Sam has excellents speed and should be able to shut down the fast breaks, and Krissy has the ability to do extremely well in at goalie when she wants too.
Hopefully everyone said "Hey" to Julia Bates supporting our team from the sidelines, and wiishing her to get better soon.
Our next game is against the other Mentor team. It's going to be a doozy, and missing without Krissy Mason, Megan Kupniewski and Julia Bates (injured), is not going to be an easy game.
Play of the Game:Megan's left footed goal, not waiting for that perfect kick. Actually, I believe that if she kicked an earlier shot on goal during the first half, would have scored twice. Lesson learned.
Mentor (Mason) vs Willowick - Saturday, September 15, 2007 - Sunday, September 16, 2007
5-1 (W) This team is definitely a second half team. Maybe we need to play half a game somewhere else before actually playing against our opponents.
We started slow, really slow. The first half ended with a 0-0 tie, nothing impressive, but we managed to keep the ball in there zone most of the game.
Our defense struggled getting beat on the outside by some occasional fast breaks, where one ended up where Willowick centered the ball nicely to Stephanie Scott, who managed to score a goal from a defensive position. However, it was in the wrong goal. It was an oopsy, putting Willowick up 1-0 and that's when the flood gates opened.
The team began to play and play hard and fast. Alexis Brassel had a blast just outside the 18, which was followed by another quick goal by Nicki Porter. Next, we were set up for a Corner kick by Kirsten Lorek who has earned the corner kicking role, with excellent placement inside the goalie box, placing a corner kick to Samantha Birchall, who smashed the ball to the back of the net.
Then we had some excellent break aways down the sidelines, where it became the Megan Kupniewski and Nicki Porter show. Where Nicki brought the ball down the sideline centering to Megan, who pounded the ball just to the right of the goalie for score number 4. Next, Megan brought the ball briskly up the middle, passing the ball to the outside where Nicki came and had a beautiful left footed goal to the back of the net.
Our next game against the other Willowick team is going to be a doozy. I was told that they had beaten the other Mentor team 3-0 which tells me that they have a strong team. This will be a good test for the girls who have not really been too challenged since losing our first game to Mentor-Stopek.
Play of the Game:This would have to be awarded to Megan and Nicki for there exceptional playing, and passing. Team work
Mentor (Mason) vs Willowick (Finucan) - Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - Tuesday, September 11, 2007
4-0 (W) Well done, Win # 4 with a decisive win over Willowick team which had strong defenders and a goalie that just wouldn't quit during the 2nd half.
We played much better this week, even handicapped by the fact that we didn't have a referee, and I had to try and coach while reffing at the same time.
Excellent performance by our Defenders, Bridget Geizer, Sammy Langan, Alexis Brassel, Kristen Mason, Stephanie Scott and Samantha Birchall. Keeping them scoreless. Excellent defense wins games, by the fact that we have only allow 2 goals in 5 games.
Scoring was hard to come by with a good Willowick Defense, with Kirsten Lorek scoring with the long ball outside the 18 yard line up and over the goalie's reach. We also had scores by Megan Kupniewski, and 2 from Andrea Kleis (assisted by Nicki Porter), and one on an unassisted breakaway.
No surprise Sam Huth had a good game at goal, and for our first appearance, Angela Martinovic did well as goalie during the second half.
Play of the Game:Tough one, but I would have to give this to Kirsten Lorek with the long ball scoring the first goal.
Well done girls.
Mentor (Mason) vs Eastlake (Bencina) - Wednesday, September 05, 2007 - Tuesday, September 11, 2007
4-0 (W). Hmm, today we started very slow. The first half was actually terrible, even though they dominated over Eastlake the entire game, but we just didn't maintain positioning. The first goal goes to Andrea which was the only goal during the first half.
We had quite a few shots on goal, missing just left, just right, and hitting the post.
Then after the half and a quick talk with the girls, they came out strong. Playing positions, moving the ball left and right. That was a much different team that played during the first half. Then, the flood gates opened. Megan Kupniewski comes through with two huge blasts to the back of the net. Nicki Porter had two assists, one which came on the final goal by Kirsten Lorek. Again, great work by both goalies, Sam Huth and Krissy Mason. Defensively, we were sound for the most part. There were several occasions that they got beat down the field, but they managed to catch up.
Play of the Game: This would have to go to Kirsten Lorek, placing a corner kick directly at the feet of Julia Bates who just didn't know what to do with the ball, and just couldn't finish.
Quote of the Day "I am really having an off day" Julia Bates. Well Julia, you were right, but you still played hard and did well.
Mentor (Mason) vs Eastlake (Bencina) - Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - Tuesday, September 11, 2007
6-1 (W) A win is a win, and we as a team had fun.
After a slow start, and going quickly down 1-0, I thought that this team was going to be a very tough team to beat, and the girls were going to have to step it up.
WOW, the girls were totally awesome tonight, passing, and just working as a team (almost family like).
Then the girls went on the offensive, Angela had the first score, and finished with 2 goals. My only comment is that she should concentrate on 1 touch kicks, rather than trying to settle the ball, and making that perfect kick is just going to be difficult to finish.
Next, the other team had a bad luck break, where the defender kicked a ball and the spin took it the goal. Unlucky for them, good for us.
After that, the girls went on a tear, Megan scored two blasts to the back of the net (scoring 2 goals), and passing the ball back and forth, gave us more goals from Kirsten and Andrea.
Just a totally great game and everyong stepped up. Now, we don't want to overlook the fact that Jackie, Nicki, Julia, Marcy were awesome in the Midfield, feeding the ball to there forwards, and making everything happen.
Defense, Defense, Defense wins games. Stephanie, and Sammy were awesome on the outside, and if they didnt have incredible backups with Samantha, Krissy and Sam (when they weren't playing goalie, were awesome. Bridget came out of her shell tonight. After a rough start, she learned from the other teams score, and finished the night wonderfully.
Play of the GameThe entire team, just fun to watch. Thanks Team.
Mentor (Mason) vs Eastlake (Gvora) - Tuesday, August 28, 2007 - Tuesday, September 11, 2007
4-1 (W) Excellent game, girls passed extremely well today.
The game was not that close. The girls controlled the ball, and kept the ball in there zone for almost the enitre game, until I removed players and was playing 8v11. After they scored there first goal, I decided that I would add a player in the defensive end, which ended any further attempts on their team to score.
Play of the Game: Sam Huth (Goalie) had a tremendous save diving horizontally to her right, arms extended and pulled in a great save. I would have to rate that as one of the best saves I have seen on any of my teams.
